Dr John Langford-Smith

Dr Langford-Smith has worked as a rural Ophthalmologist in Queensland and NSW for more than twenty years. He is returning to Rockhampton where he previously worked for seven years. He is a General Ophthalmic Surgeon with experience in cataract surgery, pterygia, plastics (including tumour removal, blepharoplasty and other lid procedures), and surgery for glaucoma. 

 

He has an academic background with twenty years of tertiary study. In science, he has achieved first class honours in Biochemistry at Sydney University; worked as an Immunochemist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Sydney; completed  Medicine at Sydney University in 1990;  a Masters research degree at Sydney Eye Hospital; and specialised in Clinical Ophthalmology, completing his training in 2000. 

 

As one of the few Ophthalmologists in Australia with formal scientific research training, John has a keen interest in innovative treatments and the science of Ophthalmology. Dr Langford-Smith has interests in macular degeneration and is looking into the synthesis or potential nutritional and immune treatments for this disorder. 

 

Dr Langford -Smith will be available for consultations at Rockhampton Eye Clinic and will operate from the Hillcrest Rockhampton Private Hospital from May 2024.
